Bakery Website Design: $399, Live in 24 Hours
A bakery website has one job: tell someone hungry right now where you are, when you are open, what is in the case, and how to order a cake. Hours and address above the fold, menu as text, a cake form that states the lead time and the deposit. That is a $399 Overnight Site, live in 24 hours.
TL;DR
- Hours and address above the fold, in text. Six of the eight sites we fetched do that. The two that do not, Dessert Gallery and Flour, send you to a locations page before you know if they are open.
- The custom cake form is the money page. State the lead time and the deposit in writing, or spend your mornings repeating both on the phone.
- Menu as text, not a PDF and not a photo. Google cannot read a PDF, and neither can a phone held in one hand.
- Overnight Site: $399, live in 24 hours. Online ordering with pickup slots and deposits is the Storefront, from $1,500. We will tell you which you need.
What does a bakery website actually need on it?
Five things: where you are, when you are open, what is in the case, how to order a cake, how to reach a human. Everything else is decoration.
We fetched eight real bakery sites for this page. Six put hours on the homepage. The two that do not, Dessert Gallery in Houston and Flour in Boston, hand you a locations page instead, which is a second page to load before you know whether to put shoes on.
| Above the fold | Why |
|---|---|
| Address, linked to Google Maps | Most of your traffic is already nearby, deciding. |
| Today's hours, in text | Not an image, not a PDF. Text is what gets read. |
| Tap-to-call number | "Got a 9-inch chocolate today" is a 20 second call. |
| Order a cake button | Your highest value order should not be three clicks deep. |
| One photo of the case | People buy the case, not the logo. |
Eight real bakery websites, and what to steal from each
All of this is what we saw when we fetched each page. Quotes are word for word.
1. Boulted Bread, Raleigh NC
Four nav items: WHO, WHAT, HOW, CONTACT US. Address and hours sit at the very top: "328 Dupont Circle Raleigh, NC" and "Tu-Fri 7-4, Sa-Su 8-4". One screen, everything you need. Further down the same page, still live: a Squarespace error, "This block is invalid.", and a Featured block beginning "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet".
Steal this: hours and address in the header, in text. Then read your own page to the bottom once a quarter.
2. Gayle's Bakery & Rosticceria, Capitola CA
Phone number and "Open 6:30am to 7:30pm Daily" in the header. Ordering splits into two plain lanes: "For Same Day & Future Orders: Call" and "Orders for Tomorrow & Beyond: Order online". Also live: "This site is optimized for IE8 or better."
Steal this: the two-lane split. Same day is a phone call, tomorrow and beyond is a form. Say which is which.
3. Batch Bakehouse, Madison WI
The best sentence we found anywhere: "Custom cakes, including writing, can be ordered online with 3 days notice." Lead time inside the order sentence, so nobody has to ask. The catch: in September the homepage was still pushing "Now Taking Christmas Orders" and a "Holiday 2024 Menu [PDF]".
Steal this: put the lead time inside the order sentence. Then put every seasonal banner on a calendar reminder.
4. Arizmendi Bakery, San Francisco
The nav is the whole strategy: Home, Hours, Today's Menu, Bread Schedule, Order Online. Address spelled out as "1331 9th Avenue Between Irving and Judah", hours as "Tuesday - Sunday: 7:30am - 6pm". The news item is dated August 13, 2026: the Crown Challah is "Available 9/11, 9/20."
Steal this: a dated news line. One sentence carrying this month's date does more for trust than any About page.
5. Wild Flour Bread, Freestone CA
Opens with "We are open Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm." then does what most bakeries are too polite to do: "We do not take advance or phone orders." No apology, a hundred fewer calls a month. The menu, though, is a picture: "Click on image to enlarge."
Steal this: say no in plain words. Then take the menu out of the image.
6. Cake Palate Designs, Tulsa OK
A whole page called Ordering Policy, opening "Please read this page entirely before ordering or picking up your cake." It states the notice, "we prefer a minimum of 14-day notice for all custom work.", and the money, "A 50% deposit and a signed contract are required to hold and confirm all custom cake orders over $75".
Steal this: the whole page. It is worth more than a redesign.
7. Dessert Gallery, Houston TX
What a bakery looks like once it has outgrown a brochure site. Real catalogue, real cart, "Pickup Today!" second in the nav right after Home, cakes split into 6-inch Cakes, 9-inch Cakes, Sheet Cakes and By the Slice. Special Diet is a top-level menu: Flourless, Vegan, No Sugar Added, No Eggs.
Steal this: put dietary needs in the nav, not in a footnote. Someone is shopping for a coeliac kid right now.
8. Flour Bakery + Cafe, Boston
Five nav items, Gift Cards, Menu, Bakeries, About Us, Careers, then an Order Now button. Every footer carries an "allergens guide" link, the right instinct even if it hands you to a third-party app. And then, live on the cakes card: "Make your celebratin party sweeter with cake!"
Steal this: an allergens link in every footer. Then proofread the cake card, because that is the one people screenshot.
The custom cake order form: lead time and deposit, in writing
Custom cakes are where the margin is and where the arguments are. Most bakeries handle it with a phone number and hope. Two of the eight wrote the rules down where a customer can read them: Batch Bakehouse at three days, Cake Palate Designs at fourteen with a 50% deposit on anything over $75. Your form has to collect enough to quote without a second call.
CUSTOM CAKE ORDER REQUEST
Above the form, in bold:
We need [X] days notice, [Y] for tiered and wedding cakes.
A [Z]% deposit confirms the date. It is not held until that is paid.
Pickup only / delivery within [radius]. Balance due at pickup.
Fields:
Name
Mobile (we WhatsApp a photo before pickup)
Email
Date needed [picker, blocks anything under X days]
Pickup or delivery, and time window
Servings needed [6 / 10 / 20 / 30 / 50+]
Shape and size [6in / 8in round / quarter sheet / tiered]
Cake flavour [your real list, not "other"]
Filling / frosting
Allergies in the room [free text, required, even if none]
Writing on the cake [exact spelling, copied letter for letter]
Theme / colours
Photo upload [the reference image they already saved]
Budget [ranges, not a blank box]
Below the button:
We reply within one business day with a price and a yes or no.
Nothing is booked until the deposit is paid.
The allergies field is not a checkbox. Ask in words, get an answer in words. FARE's list of the nine common allergens is worth ten minutes if you have never written a kitchen disclaimer.
Put the menu in text, not a PDF
Two of the eight get this wrong. Wild Flour's menu is a photograph you click to enlarge. Batch's holiday menu is a PDF. It feels efficient because the print version already exists. It is not. A PDF does not resize on a phone, does not get read aloud, and never puts you in a result for "gluten free birthday cake near me".
Same for hours: write them as text and mark them up. Google's LocalBusiness structured data guide lists the fields it reads, and it pairs with a filled-out Google Business Profile, which for a bakery works as hard as the site.
Your Instagram feed is not a website
Instagram is where people fall in love with your cakes. It is not where they find your hours, and it is not yours. Seven of the eight sites we fetched link an Instagram account. Not one of them keeps its hours, its address or its cake policy there, A grid is a bad place to keep a fact someone has to find twice. Post the cakes there. Keep the facts on a page you own, and point your link in bio at the order form.
What does a bakery website cost and how long does it take?
Most pages about bakery website design will not give you a number. Here are ours.
| What you get | Tier | Price | Live in |
|---|---|---|---|
| One page: hours, address, map, menu in text, cake form, tap-to-call, Google Business link | Overnight Site | $399 | 24 hours |
| Multi-page: cake page, wholesale and catering, a page per location, leads into a CRM | Engine | from $699 | 2 to 4 days |
| Online ordering: catalogue, pickup slots, deposits taken online, Shopify behind it | Storefront | from $1,500 | quoted per build |
| Scroll-driven brand site, for a national wholesale story | Flagship | from $3,000 | fixed price |
Fixed price up front, milestone payments of 40/30/30 with a working demo before each, everything in your own accounts from day one. Live in 24 hours or free. More at pricing and what a small business website should cost.
When do you need the $1,500 Storefront instead of the $399 site?
Most bakeries do not. If people walk in, call, and order cakes through a form, the $399 page covers you. Go bake.
Move up when you ship nationally, take money online for holiday pickups, or run a catalogue too big for one menu page. Dessert Gallery is the shape of that build. A store costs more because it does more: that is our Shopify and D2C work, and the Axiom build is the closest public example. We will not sell you one because it sounds more serious.

FAQ
How much does a bakery website cost?
$399 for a one-page Overnight Site carrying your hours, address, map, menu in text, a tap-to-call number and a custom cake enquiry form. Live in 24 hours or it is free. A page per location plus wholesale enquiries and leads landing in a CRM is the Engine tier, from $699, live in 2 to 4 days. Online ordering with pickup slots and deposits is the Storefront, from $1,500.
What should be on a bakery website?
Address and hours in text, above the fold. A tap-to-call number. What is in the case, written as text rather than locked in a PDF. A custom cake form stating your lead time and deposit. An allergen line. A link to your Google Business Profile. Photos of cakes you actually made. Everything past that is decoration.
How much notice should I ask for on custom cakes?
Whatever you actually need, written where people see it before they type. The bakeries we fetched sit between three days and fourteen. Batch Bakehouse puts it inside the order sentence: custom cakes, including writing, can be ordered online with 3 days notice. Cake Palate Designs asks 14 days plus a 50% deposit. Pick your number and put it above the form. The number matters less than the fact it is visible.
Do I need online ordering, or is a form enough?
A form is enough for most independent bakeries. It costs $399, captures the order, and keeps you in control of what you can actually bake that week. Move to online ordering when you take money up front for holiday pickups, ship outside your city, or run a catalogue too big for a menu page. That is the Storefront, from $1,500.
Can my Instagram be my website?
No, for one boring reason: nobody can find your hours in a grid. Keep posting, that is where people fall for your cakes. But your address, hours, allergen line and cake order form need to live on a page you own, that Google can read, that loads when Instagram is down. Point your link in bio at the order form instead of the grid.
Will a new website get me ranking for bakery near me?
Partly. The site does the on-page half: hours and address in text, LocalBusiness markup, a page that loads fast on a phone. The other half is a Google Business Profile filled out properly and reviews arriving steadily, and that part is yours. We build for it and tell you what it takes rather than sell a ranking guarantee nobody can keep.
Send us your bakery name and city on WhatsApp and we will send back the six lines your page should open with, plus a price, the same day. No call. If you like it, the Overnight Site is $399 and live in 24 hours. If you actually need online ordering, we will say that instead.
